Purification

Lord Jesus,
I sin-----
Grant that I may never cease grieving because of it,
never be content with myself,
never think I can reach a point of perfection.

Kill all my envy, command my tongue, trample down self.
Give me grace to be holy, kind, gentle, pure, peaceable,
to live for thee and not for self,
to copy thy words, acts, spirit,
to be transformed into thy likeness,
to be consecrated wholly to thee,
to live entirely to thy glory.

Deliver me from attachment to things unclean,
from wrong associations,
from the predominance of evil passions,
from the sugar of sin as well as its gall,
that with self-loathing, deep contrition,
earnest heart searching
I may come to thee, cast myself on thee,
trust in thee, cry to thee, be delivered by thee.

O God, the Eternal All, help me to know,
that all things are shadows, but thou art substance,
all things are quicksands, but thou art mountain,
all things are shifting, but thou art anchor,
all things are ignorance, but thou art wisdom.

If my life is to be a crucible amid burning heat, so be it,
but do thou sit at the furnance mouth
to watch the ore that nothing is lost.

If I sin wilfully, grievously, tormentedly, in grace
take away my mourning and give me music;
remove my sackcloth and clothe me with beauty;
still my sighs and fill my mouth with song,
then give me summer weather as a Christian.

Struggle with Doubts

We will almost always struggle with doubts about God's love during our times of adversity. If we never had to struggle, our faith would not grow. But we must engage in the struggle with our doubts; we must not let them overwhelm us. During seemingly intolerable times, we may feel like David who said at a time of great distress:

How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? (Psalm 13:1)

David had his doubts, he struggled with them. In fact, in the next verse he continues his struggle as he asks, "How long must I wrestle with my thoughts?" He felt God had, at least for a time, forgotten him. But David, by the enabling power of God, won his struggle. He overcame his doubts. He could then say,

But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, for he has been good to me. (Psalm 13:5-6)

You and I, like David, must wrestle with our thoughts. With God's help we, too, can come to a place, even in the midst of our adversities, where we will be able to say, "I trust in your unfailing love."

Exciting Times Ahead!

I spent most of the day at Lowe's picking out cabinets for the kitchen. Also flooring, paint, a countertop and new windows. The ones above are the Orchard Collection and I'm getting this same finish called Hickory Spice. The above picture is NOT my kitchen. It's much, much smaller but I think the light cabinets will make it look larger.

This is my countertop. Isn't it pretty? I love it! It's called Deepstar Flint. I just love the blues and the light cabinets will bring out the tans. I chose "Bungalow Blue" for my paint. It's by Eddie Bauer but I haven't been able to find a picture online.

And this little picture is my floor! It's red oak (laminate). I love this also! This will be going into the downstairs bath, living room, dining room, kitchen, and upstairs in the master bedroom. I'm so, so glad to be getting rid of most of our carpets. Hurrah for wood (even fake) floors!

I will be posting some before, during and after pictures. We also picked out new windows and our big, ugly sliding doors in the front (8' by 7') will be replaced by a french door with sidelights and the other one will be replaced by a window. Yeah!

Please pray for me in about two weeks (or before then!) as my house will soon be a disaster area. Praise the Lord with me as we have a bunch a friends from church who will be doing the work along with my husband. We are so thankful for their helping hands and expertise in all these different areas.

Pictures

The pictures above are an ongoing rummy game that Julianne and I have been playing since March 2006. When we first started out, I was winning most of the time......now it's the other way around!

This is my wonderful husband, Michael, who fixes all my computer problems (for free!!). He is a computer expert and I really appreciate all he does for our family. Thanks, love!!

I have been learning a lot about hospitality and wanted to put it into action. I invited a friend and her daughters over for lunch because I wanted to get to know her better. We had a wonderful time of fellowship. The plates, candles, etc. I found at Target in one of their clearance sections. Hurray for Target's endcaps!!
Our menu was little ham and cheese pockets, a spinach salad and hot rice pudding. Yum!

More Pictures

The next three pictures are the damage that was done to our shed during a windstorm in March. We received a check from our neighbor's insurance company so hopefully this will be fixed soon!

This is what happens to butter when you melt it for 1:00 instead of :10

Since we couldn't take pictures of the Brian Regan concert, here is a picture of the tickets. If you haven't seen Brian, you are missing a treat. He was hilarious. It was a fun-filled night of laughter. And clean, too!!

Trying the Photo Update Again

Here's the pictures I promised a few days ago. I'll do several updates so they won't mysteriously disappear like last time!

Snickers being cute!

Bat Dog (aka Dasher)

Dasher

Snickers helping Julianne with her puzzle

Snickers favorite resting place!

I was learning how to take high speed pictures with my camera and captured this one of Snickers. Is she sticking her tongue out at me???

Trusting God

"We mistakenly look for tokens of God's love in happiness. We should instead look for them in His faithful and persistent work to conform us to Christ." ~ Jerry Bridges, Trusting God

Lost in Space

I just wrote an update with lots of pictures but when I uploaded it, a message said there was an error. Sigh. I'll try again tomorrow. G'night!
