A Poem From Big Sister to Little Sister

This is a poem that Jessica wrote for Julianne. It's great!

I know that your tummy hurts really bad
And everyone around you is probably sad
You have stitches that go in and out
And that will probably make you pout

You were so strong in your hospital bed
You're lucky your appendix is not in your head
Now that you are missing something inside
Your tummy can keep growing from side to side (just kidding)

I'm glad you're my sister and you take a joke
Because I really like to make fun and poke
So for now, have a good day and God bless
To my little sister who is appendix-less.

A Trip to the ER

I thought this weekend was going to be a little different than usual because we had three activities to attend. It was different but not because of busyness. Friday night Julianne attended a game night with her Sunday School class and had a great time. We learned how to play Set. We're always glad to have a new game! Saturday we went to a friend's baby shower and then went out into the country to look at a house with another friend. They are thinking of moving.

Anyway, late Saturday night, around 1 am Julianne came downstairs in a lot of pain. At first we thought it was just an upset stomach but the pain didn't subside even after a large dose of ibuprofen. Long story, short: we ended up going to the ER and after a few tests, it turned out she had appendicitis and needed surgery. Since the hospital we were at (literally 5 minutes away) doesn't have a pediatric section, she was taken by ambulance (fun for her!) to another nearby hospital. The surgery was done Sunday morning around 11 and they were able to do it using a laparscope. She only has 3 little "holes" and a much quicker recovery time.

She is now home and resting. She's a little bummed that she won't be able to test at karate this week or go swimming this weekend at camp, but other than that she is fine.

Please pray that she continues to heal and that she doesn't have any infections at the sites of the incisions.

I have one picture that I took but I'll have to ask her if I can post it here. :-)

Content With Who We Are

According to Ephesians 2:10, you and I "are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." When I'm not pleased with the talents, gifts, and abilities God gave me, I remind myself that He is the Blessed Controller of all things (1 Timothy 6:15). If I believe this, I also must believe that God is the Blessed Controller of my "all things". My appearance. My personality. My gifts and talents. In my heart of hearts I long to please God, and it pleases Him when I am content with how He created me.

Is your devotional life full of scraps lately? Are you distracted during your time with the Lord? I know it is like that for me. This morning I read a great post by Stephen Altrogge over at The Blazing Center. It was such an encouragement to me and I hope it will be to you also!

Monday at Home

If you been reading this blog for a while, you know Monday means laundry. Almost everything is washed and folded. Almost. Other happenings today:

~We are still doing school through the summer so mornings are reserved for that.
~I took Julianne bowling this afternoon and she beat her previous high of 176. She bowled a 187!! Woo hoo! Six strikes!!
~I picked up some "frugal living" books at the library. Even if I get only one tip, I'm sure it will help.
~One of Julianne's windows was put today. Four more to go!
~Made coconut cream pie and rice pudding.
~I was in my pj's by 6:30 pm.
~We had some thunderstorms this afternoon but it didn't really rain that much. The rest of this week will be in the low 80's, lower humidity, and the nighttime temps will be in the 50's. Nice!!

Finally some pictures from the remodeling!

Here's our beautiful living room window waiting to be installed:

Michael and Jacob working in the open air:

It's in. The dining room window was also installed!
Here's the bedroom with new paint, floors and furniture. Windows still need to be installed.

This is my "quiet corner" where I spend time with the Lord!

I found this at a local antique shop. Isn't it pretty? I love the design and colors.

I found this lantern at a local store and thought it went well with the cottage feel.
This is a beautiful scarf I found at the homeschool convention. It's made by widows in Bangladesh. The colors are perfect and the work is exquisite.

One of our bedroom windows is going in right now and Lord willing, the rest of the windows will be in next week.

The Coming Days

Just a quick post to let you all know I'll be busy for a little while. This weekend is our state homeschool convention so that's where I'll be. Enjoy yourselves and I'll "see" you next week, Lord willing!
