Stay On Mission

Here's a great article on focusing our energies on our children while they are young.   If we are mothers, God has called us to care for our young children and to raise them for Him.  If your children are young, now is the time to minister to them.

He Is My Strength

Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.

The Sovereign Lord is my strength;
He makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
He enables me to go on the heights.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For October 11, 2010

Outside my window…a slightly-warm autumn day but beautiful….there is not a cloud in the sky!

I am thankful…for our pastor and his faithful study of the Word.

From the learning rooms…I am learning some new embroidery stitches; practice, practice, practice

From the kitchen...spaghetti, meatballs, and salad. Yum!

I am creating….Christmas gifts. Shhhh…….

I am reading…read the first two chapters of “Humility” for our Fellowship Group; just started “Think” by John Piper; and for fun I’m reading “Only to Deceive” by Tasha Alexander

Scripture for the week: “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him. (Nahum 1:7)

I am hearing…the windows are open and I hear: the water in our fountain tinkling, a neighbor talking, and birds singing.

Noticing that…it takes me longer to recover from sickness than it used to….part of growing older, I guess.

Around the house...we are now on emergency water restrictions so we cannot water the yard or plants at all. We had rain about two weeks ago and there’s a small chance we may have some this week.

A few plans for the rest of the week: a blessedly quiet week other than Julianne’s co-op classes!!

Here is a picture I’m sharing…..something that Michael sent to me on my phone. He makes me happy!

Be sure to visit The Simple Woman's Daybook to read other daybook entries.  It will be a blessing!!

A Union Which Will Last Forever

"My Beloved is mine--and I am His!" Song of Songs 2:14

This is the language of the Christian in the book of Canticles. How great is the blessedness involved in such an assurance! My beloved Jesus is mine . . .

in the dignity of His person;
in the suitability of His offices;
in the immensity of His love;
in the efficacy of His atonement;
in the riches of His abounding grace!

His righteousness is mine--to justify me,
His Spirit is mine--to sanctify me,
His power is mine--to defend me,
His wisdom is mine--to guide me, and
His Heaven is mine--to receive me!

And what does Christ say to the believer in return?

"I am yours--and all that I have is yours! I have boundless and unsearchable riches--and those riches are for you! I have happiness to bestow, such as the mind in its largest grasp has never been able to conceive--and that happiness is for you! I have crowns and scepters at My disposal--and all those honors are for you! Yes, to him who overcomes, I will grant to sit with Me on My glorious throne!"

The Christian's exaltation and bliss is not a matter of doubtful disputation. And what makes it so certain? It is the blessed truth that the union which exists between him and Christ--is an indissoluble union! All other relations, however close and endearing, must be broken. That union of husband and wife; and soul and body--has no power to resist the assault of death, the great destroyer.

All earthly ties must then be severed. But death, which breaks every other bond--only strengthens the bond between the Christian and Christ! Death, which quenches every other love--only kindles that of the believer for Jesus, into a purer and intenser flame! Death, which snatches every other object from our grasp--only brings us to the full enjoyment of Him, who is the fountain of life, the great center and source of all blessedness.

Christian, rejoice in your union with Jesus!
The changes of time cannot touch it!
The storms of life cannot injure it!
The sword of persecution cannot sever it!
The damps of death cannot affect it!
The malice of hell cannot move it!

It is a union which will last forever! It follows, therefore, that you, if a partaker of it--will be rich forever, safe forever, dignified forever, and blessed forever!

Various Odds and Ends

It seems that I cannot shake the effects of my cold.  When I got sick, it caused my ocular rosacea to flare up in my eye.  It is so red it reminds me of the Eye of Sauron.  :-)  I'm putting antibiotics in but it's taking a while to work.
After much prayer and speaking with a guidance counselor, we decided to graduate Julianne this year!  She will be working hard to finish all her coursework before the end of May.  She wants to take a year off to work before she goes to college but we're thinking she should take at least take one or two courses to stay in the "study mode".  So, I guess I'm going to be planning a graduation party this year!
Michael has been traveling a lot these last few months and it's been a change for us.  Even though it's hard sometimes, I'm thankful that the Lord has provided a job for Michael.  Today (October 6) is his 30th anniversary at The Associated Press!!
Speaking of anniversaries, today (also October 6) is our anniverary.  Michael and I have been married 26 years!!  It's hard to believe it's been that long.  Michael bought me a beautiful sapphire and diamond anniversary ring.  It will remind me always how much I love him and of our life together now and forever!!
It has been quite chilly here lately and I've had to turn the heater on!  Tomorrow, though, it's supposed to be in the high 70's.  Even though we got about 4" of rain last week we are still under emergency water restrictions so I can't water my flowers or shrubs.  I'm hoping it rains soon or they are going to be in trouble.
Lastly, Tim Challies has a very good article on "The Heart of Frugality" that has put into words a lot of what I've been thinking about lately.  It's amazing how God brings these things into our lives at just the right time.  I've been trying to cut coupons but the other day I realized that I was spending so much time on cutting them out, organzing them, checking all the flyers, etc. and I wondered if it was worth it.  I buy a lot of store brand groceries so even with a coupon it was still cheaper to buy the store brand.  I do use coupons for health and beauty items, though.  I'm not brand loyal when it comes to body wash, etc. and will buy whatever I have a coupon for.  I like shopping at Target because you can combine their coupons with a manufactor's coupon to get a really good deal.

If you read the article, please let me know what you think.

An Unintended Break

A week for so ago I caught a very bad cold....or I should say it caught me.  I ended up being sick for about 5 days and had to postpone our Fellowship Group and I missed worship last Sunday.  I started feeling better earlier last week but I've been busy catching up with things that were not done while I was sick.

This week promises to be another busy one!  I will try to update tomorrow if I can.  In the meantime, I hope you have a blessed Monday!!
